Senior journalist Syed Wahab Ali Kazmi, Resident Editor of The Nation Karachi, passed away early Thursday morning because of post-heart surgery complications. He was laid to rest at a local graveyard in the afternoon.
His friends, journalists, government functionaries and representatives of multinational companies attended Kazmi’s funeral prayers held at Masjid-e-Hira, Model Colony, Malir.
Arif Nizami, Editor The Nation, flew in from Lahore to attend his burial. Mr Nizami expressed deep condolences with the bereaved family and prayed to Allah Almighty to give the family strength to bear the irreparable loss that they had suffered. Mr Kazmi underwent a heart surgery on Tuesday at the NICVD afternoon and was admitted to the ICU.
Later in the evening he gained consciousness for a brief period but later he suffered brain haemorrhage, doctors said. He did not regain consciousness and doctors pronounced him dead on Thursday morning.
Mr Kazmi was born in UP in British India in 1940. He got his school and college education in East Pakistan before coming to Karachi. He then went to Britain where he did Masters in Economics from Leads University. He joined The Nation in late 80s and served this publication with distinction till his death. He has left behind a widow, two sons, one daughter, grandchildren.
Mr Kazmi was very popular and a friendly figure in journalistic and business communities. Editor Nawa-i-Waqt Karachi Khawar Saeed, Industrialist Usman Masood, PID Director Thakur Das, MCB Public Relations Manager Kafeel Burni, PIA Public Relations GM Imran Ghaznavi, Manager Public Relations PIA Chaudhry Bashir Ahmed, National Foods Chairman Abdul Majeed, Qaiser Masood Jafri of ABL, Tauqeer Mohajir, Sikandar Rehman, Bashir Sadozai, Sajjad Mir, Shamim Akhtar, Pervez George, Khalid Rehman, staff members of Daily Nawai- Waqt and The Nation and a large number of relatives and notables attended Mr Kazmi’s funeral prayers.
Quran Khawani for the departed soul will be held at his residence; C-13, Sheet No-27, Model Colony after Zohar prayers and Soyam will be held after Asr prayers today.
Wahib Kazmi's death widely condoled
People from all walks of life on Thursday condoled death of S Wahab Kazmi, senior journalist and the resident editor, Karachi office of daily The Nation who passed away Wednesday after undergoing heart surgery.
Officials, politicians and businessmen in their separate condolence messages recalled journalistic career of Syed Wahab Kazmi spread over more than a quarter century and termed him pleasant personality whose death has created a void. They said that late Kazmi performed his professional obligations with utmost dedication.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad expressed his sorrows over death of the senior journalist and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant patience to the family to bear this irreparable loss.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain offered condolences his death and prayed to Allah to grant patience to the family.
President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Majid Aziz, senior vice president A Abdullah Zaki, vice president Saqib Naseem, traders’ leader Siraj Qasim Teli, Tahir Khaliq, Haroon Farooqui, Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Anjum Nisar and other traders in a condolence message said that Syed Wahab Kazmi was a pleasant person who possess good manners. They said that late Kazmi held important place in the journalists’ community and his services would be remembered for a long time.
The businessmen while expressing sorrows with Majid Nizami, editor-in-chief of The Nation and Arif Nizami, editor The Nation said that his death was a great loss for the newspaper and his services for the paper would be remembered for ever. They prayed to Allah to grant patience to the family to bear this loss.
Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Information, Salahuddin Haider expressed his deep sorrows and regrets over demise of the veteran journalist.
MNA and Naib Amir Jamaat Islami Pakistan, Liaquat Baloch, MNA and MMA Sindh leader Asadullah Bhutto and secretary information Mujahid Channa also condoled the death.
Sindh Minister for Local Government, Katchi Abadis and Spatial Development, Muhammad Hussain Khan in a condolence message said that late Kazmi performed his journalistic obligations with devotion and his name will remain alive for the services he rendered in the field of journalism.
Town Nazim Liaquatabad and PRO Muhammad Aslam Khan also sent message of condolences.
