Rumors that AMD will finally raise the curtain on its long-awaited Barcelona processor on September 10 started to emerge last week, after the company sent out invitations to an event to be held at Lucasfilm's headquarters, touting it as "the most anticipated premiere of 2007."

Today, a report by DigiTimes fuels rumors of the upcoming launch. According to sources at server makers, AMD schedules to launch two 2-way Opteron (Barcelona) server processors at the event, while another chip will follow a month or so later.

The Opteron 2348 and 2350 will have core frequencies of 1.9GHz and 2.0GHz and will be priced at US$320 and US$390 in 1000-unit tray quantities, respectively. In October, AMD will launch the 2.2GHz Opteron 2354 with 95W TDP and a price of US$610 in 1000-unit tray quantities, however this processor should actually appear in the channel later this month, noted the sources.

Models at frequencies higher than 2.0GHz are expected to launch in the fourth quarter. The sources also said AMD has four-way Opteron processors in the pipeline, which will include the Opteron 8348, 8350, 8352, 8354 and 8356 models priced between $790 and $1550, although no details on clock speed, power consumption or launch date were given.

These will be 65nm CPUs and after that 80 cores will come on 45nm aswell as 65nm process technology.

Intel has plan to launch it's first Core 80 process for Servers till 2015 .. they have practically achieved this thing in their labs.

Well friend in case u dunno lemme tell ya it was AMD that demonstrated its 80core chip first and btw b4 all this AMD Octa Core and Hexa core are in the pipeline AMD already demonstarted the Octa Core Chip that runs on a special board having two cpus each having its own set of quadcores, cache and clockspeed.AMD is also coming with RD series of its chipsets, so in other words AMD is all set to take on Intel head to head this time.

if someone of u can give comparision of Intel vs AMD processors,,, as far as i know that AMD got flopped not only in pakistan but also in france,,, thats what i have observed

as far as my knowledge is concern. Before Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD outclassed INTEL in it's desktop range. It's ATHLON, AHTLONXP, ATHLON64 were awesome release compared to the INTEL process of that time (intel didn't have any 64bit or other technology, it was only relying on Pentium D or on the Clock Speed).

However, AMD Series of K6-II till DURON .. had some Processor overheat problem which were replaced by the company but till then it was already lost it's market share.

I read the article on CNet after the release of Intel Core 2 Duo, which stated the line "intel has finally regained it's lead in processor technology over AMD".

oh wow .. thanks for the info ..

I am bit out dated towards hardware technology .. 1-embaressed_smile.gif

I wish. I don't know why but AMD was always been my Dream Machine.
