Revealed: Porsche RS 60 Spyder
By Henry BiggsNovember 27 2007
Launching limited editions is a sure sign of attempts to boost sales of an aging model and it seems even Porsche is not averse to going down this route.

The company has just announced the special edition RS 60 Spyder, based on the Boxster S and limited to just 1,960 models worldwide.

Named after the successful Porsche Type 718 RS 60 Spyder which won the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida in 1960, the modern version boasts an extra eight brake horsepower over the Boxster S thanks to a sports exhaust plus a slightly wider track courtesy of spacer plates behind the 19-inch wheels. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is fitted as standard while all cars are finished in silver with either a red interior and roof or dark grey interior with a black roof.

These touches are accentuated by a black windscreen surround, red finish taillights and, somewhat questionably, silver seatbelts. Inside the instrument binnacle has been removed to leave the large central rev counter and the two dials flanking it sitting proud atop the dashboard. Kickplates bear the "RS 60 Spyder" legend and a plaque on the dashboard confirms each car's place in the production run. The car starts from £38,386 exclusive of local taxes which in the UK translates to £45,400 inclusive of VAT.
