Blasts rock naval college in Lahore
Tuesday, 4 March 2008
A truck delivering food exploded in the parking lot of the high-security Naval War College in the eastern Pakistan city of Lahore, killing two people and injuring nine, police said.
Police chief Malik Iqbal told The Associated Press that two nearly simultaneous explosions took place in the truck that had brought food supplies for the college canteen.
He said two people were killed and nine were injured. He had no other details. Iqbal said it was not clear if the explosions were caused by bombs.
Live television footage showed black smoke billowing from inside the college compound. Several injured people with bloodstained clothes were seen walking out. At least two vehicles were seen on fire.
Security personnel tried to clear the area, a high-security neighborhood that also has the state governor's house, a five-star hotel and government offices.
The Naval War College trains senior naval officials from Pakistan and other countries.
