Assalamu Alaikum,
A question just popped into my head. According to Muslims, Islam is the original faith, which Jesus restored before the Gospel was supposedly corrupted by man.
Supposing an obscure group remained faithful to the message of Islam Muslims believe Jesus preached, right up until the time of Muhammad.
1. Would Muhammad have been called to prophethood?
2. If so would these pre existing believers have needed to follow him if they already had the full message?

According to muslims faith, 'Islam-religion' doesn't start since Muhammad (peace be upon him) became a prophet. Infact Adam was the 1st man as well as 1st prophet of 'Islam religion'. Muhammad is the last n final prophet. but there is a basic different from " Prophet Muhammad" and other prophet. Other prophets were supposed to the 'prophet for a specific group of peoples and specific time periods'. No any prophet earlier than Muhammad was supposed to guide and give message of God to whole mankind. Jesus (peace be upon him) himslef says in bible that HE (p-b-u-h) came to guide for a specific group of peoples.
Though it is true (and proved) that except Quran (revealed on Muhammad- peace be upon him), all earlier revealed religious scriptures are not available in original condition today... but if we agree for the sake of arguement that today any one have had full and original message of God, After revealing Quran they are no more 'valid'.
Muhammad (PBUH) and Quran is not only the last and final prophet and message of God.... but both are for whole mankind of the world and valid till last day of this world. This is the same as when a parliment (supreme authority) of a country approves a new version of constitution (rules & regulation), old editions of such constitution automatically expire.
