For instance you cannot see the full moon during the day because it is on the opposite side of the earth to the sun, so it rises and sunset and sets at sunrise.
However, a crescent moon is close to being in the same direction as the sun, so it is mostly up during the day and not at night.
Waxing crescent rises a little after sunrise and sets a little after sunset. First quarter moon rises ay midday and sets at midnight, etc. This is true wherever you are on the planet, but if, for example, you are in California, this happens 3 hours later than if you are in New York.
